IT WAS a dream come true and a total surprise for couple N. Samuel, 88, and Mariamony Abraham, 78, when their children threw them a grand party for their 60th wedding anniversary recently.

The diamond anniversary celebration, which gathered close family and friends, was held at the couple’s church — the Metro Tabernacle church in Batu Caves, Gombak.

Kicking off with the couple’s arrival and welcoming song, the event continued with praise, worship and prayers before a cake-cutting ceremony.

There were short speeches from their three children; S.S Abraham, Thomas Samuel and Esther John.

In his speech, N. Samuel thanked his wife for being his pillar of strength, and encouraged all couples to put God first in everything.

“Today, our blessing to each one of you is to live your lives to the fullest, fulfilling everything that God desires you to do,” he said.

Esther, who was in charge of planning the event, said the anniversary was a big deal as both her parents were heart patients.

Although the couple knew about a celebration, Esther said her parents did not know the scale of the celebration, so it was a big surprise for them.

“My parents — dad from India, and mom from Serdang, were married in a match-made wedding in 1951 and they began their life from there.

“My dad mentioned that he had always wanted to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary so this party is also to fulfil his wishes,” said Esther, adding that the couple have six grand children and a great-granddaughter.

Over 300 guests turned up for the celebration.
