Think out of the box

What say you on the issue below?

IN order to stand out from other entries in a photography competition held in conjunction with Penang Starwalk 2011 last month, Ang Gee Leong decided to capture a low-angle shot.

The different approach worked well for the 46-year-old manager as his photo of excited Starwalkers walking past the Town Hall at the Esplanade won him the first prize in the competition themed ‘2011 Happy Starwalk Moments @ Heritage Spots’.

“Thinking that most people would capture pictures from a standing position, I figured that squatting down to take a low-angle shot would allow me to capture a better view of the heritage buildings in the background,” said Ang at the prize presentation ceremony held at the Star Northern Hub in Bayan Lepas on Tuesday.

His photograph was picked from among 50 entries. He won a Nikon D5100+kit worth RM2,400.

Second prize went to Wong Shiow Pyng, 36, with her picture depicting a group of participants posing happily in front of the City Hall building while the third prize went to photographer Yeap Cheong Wah, 46, whose photo captured participants jumping for joy in front of the George Town World Heritage Inc office on Armenian Street.

Wong’s husband Lee Boon Chin, 35, was present to collect her prize of a Nikon P500 camera while Yeap took home a Nikon P300 camera.

The cameras were sponsored by Nikon (M) Sdn Bhd.

There were also five consolation prizes.

Present at the prize presentation ceremony were Nikon (M) Sdn Bhd Consumer Products Sales Department assistant sales manager James Ling and Consumer Products Marketing Department technical support executive Kenny Chew Kok Wei.
