ON this significant day, 11.11.11, there are mass weddings happening in Penang, as well as a mass birthday bash at the Penang Times Square for those born on Nov 11.

A total of 461 couples are scheduled to register their marriages in the state.

On the island, the Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society has chosen to register 111 couples, while the Penang Chinese Town Hall will register 80 couples and the National Registration Department 35 couples.

An assistant registrar will also marry 15 couples at the Cititel Penang.

Over at the mainland, 168 couples will get married at the Tzi Ch’ih Ko Moral Uplifting Society in Bukit Mertajam, and 52 couples at the Che Wee Khor Moral Uplifting Society in Butterworth.

Ivory Properties Group Berhad corporate communications manager Ann Tan said so far, 20 people born on Nov 11 would be celebrating their birthday together at the Penang Times Square, along with their families and good friends.

“We are expecting about 200 people,” she said when contacted yesterday.

“There will be a giant birthday cake and also a lucky draw with 11 attractive prizes like an iPad, iPhone and cruise trips.

“The birthday boys and girls will also bring gifts and exchange with each other.”

She said those who are born on the date can still register for the celebration by contacting the mall at 04-2109020 before the event begins at 7.30pm.

“Call us beforehand so we can make the necessary preparation,” she explained.

Tan said there would also be an “on-air dedication” to be played on the mall’s two exterior LED screens for shoppers who spend at least RM50 at any outlet in the mall, where 11 most creative messages will be displayed from today until Sunday.

A check at several private hospitals also revealed that at least seven expectant mothers are planning to give birth through caesarean section today in conjunction with the memorable date.
