Senior citizens treated to meal and gifts

What say you on the issue below?

HAPPY faces were clearly visible when 150 senior citizens and the disabled from Kampung Bercham were given ang pow and a bag of rice each recently.

The gifts were organised by the Ipoh Barat Barisan Nasional Service Centre, which also feted the recipients to a luncheon prior to the presentation ceremony.

Centre coordinator Lim Huey Shan said the event came about as the centre was aware that there were many senior citizens in Bercham who needed assistance.

One of the happy recipients, wheelchair- bound Kok Chin Seong, 44, said life was a constant worry for him.

“At least with the centre’s contribution of rice, I need not worry about where my next meal of rice will come from for the next two weeks,” he said.

Another recipient, who wished to be known only as Madam Yin, 69, was equally thankful over the ang pow and rice.

“I have been living alone since my husband passed away, and my children are all married now, leading their own lives in other states.

“Thankfully, my neighbours have been kind to me all this while, and we always help each other when in need,” she said.

Also present was service centre chief Dr Cheng Wei Yee, who is also Ipoh Barat MCA division’s Medical and Community Service bureau chief.
