GET your creative side treated to while doing something for charity by catching the ‘Nutcracker, the Christmas Musical’ by The Acts School of Performing Arts (Acts).

Part of the proceeds from the charity production will be directed to the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Sdn Bhd to fund their numerous artworks in the form of greeting cards, calendars and gift tags.

Acts general manager Susan Woon said they hoped to have the artists from the association give live demonstrations during the charity event.

“This event will encourage children to be charitable and to be aware of the plight of many who are not as lucky as they are,” said Woon.

The dancers of the musical will be coached by Gregory Aaron from Texas, USA.

Aaron is the artistic director of the Atlanta Festival Ballet Company and Atlanta Festival Ballet School.

He has toured Venice, Milan, Rome, Italy and Naples as a performer and has danced with The Boston Ballet and with the renowned Rudolph Nureyev in Uris Theatre.

Aaron will choreograph and teach the performers of this popular two-act ballet that’s about a nutcracker doll transforming into a handsome prince and ruling Confiturembourg with the beautiful Clara who helps him defeat the villain, the Mouse King.

“I think it will be new, exciting and fun to present Nutcracker as a musical,” said Aaron, adding that he was looking forward to teaching in Kuala Lumpur after his teaching stints in the Philippines and Singapore.

The performers will also have preliminary drama coaching from acclaimed artiste and director Michael Xavier Voon.

All drama and musical theatre buffs aged eight to 19 are invited to audition for the roles.
