MB: We must relook job strategies

What say you on the issue below?

PERAK needs to identify its strengths and relook its strategies to stop skilled local workers from migrating, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said.

The Silver State, he said, was losing out in terms of talented workers as locals were being lured away by better paying jobs in Penang and Selangor.

“It is high time that the state looked at how to resolve this issue.

“How are we going to attract our younger generation of skilled workers who can contribute their knowledge towards the development of Perak, to stay?

“Although this is nothing new, it is time that we relook our strategies.

Making his point: MEMC Ipoh Sdn Bhd site manager Gianpaolo Mettifogo making his presentation during the talk organised by the Skills Development Department of the Human Resources Ministry.

“We need to identify our strengths,” he told reporters after attending a luncheon talk organised by the Skills Development Department of the Human Resources Ministry.

The talk, aimed at creating a smart partnership between government agencies and the private sector, was attended by the chief executive officers of government-linked and multinational companies and also senior government officials.

On the shortage of skilled workers faced by the five main industries in the state, Dr Zambry said there is a need to hold meetings between the ministry and state and industry players to come up with a contingency plan.

“I also hope the Federal Government will assist us in enhancing investment opportunities in Perak,” he said.

He added that the luncheon was a good avenue to identify the real problems faced by industries in the state.
