Man’s best friend can also step out in style

SOME owners do not mind pulling out all the stops when it comes to grooming their precious pets.

This was evident during a beauty contest for pets held in conjunction with Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) food fair recently.

Everything from a Superman outfit to animals in make up made the fair a rare treat for visitors.

Kimmy Yew said she spent RM300 monthly to groom her three-year-old dog Bowie.

“I take care of Bowie well to ensure it does not have dog breath and its coat is silky smooth,” she said.

Audrey Lau, whose dog Ting Ting walked away with a prize for its Superman outfit, said her dog loves to ride on motorcycles.

“I usually take Ting Ting for rides in the evening,” she said.

In preparation for the event, Rachel Leong Ai Qi did not mind spending hours to make up her dog Dodo.

“It was kind of difficult for me to prepare Dodo’s hairdo and ribbons as it moved around in protest,” she said.

Malaysian Kennel Association committee member Lau Yit Meng said it was the first time such event was held in Perak.

“It is very encouraging to see pet owners try to outdo each other by putting make up on their pet,” he said.

The pets, said Lau, were judged on their beauty, natural beauty, colour and their makeup and dressing.
