PARTICIPANTS of the Monsoon Cup 2011 and inaugural Eco Terengganu Conference 2011 will have a chance to view the first electrical scooter in Malaysia, produced and manufactured by Eclimo Sdn Bhd.

Eclimo managing director Liew Chung Peng said the Eclimo ES11 was the first Malaysian-made powered by lithium-ion electric scooter.

“Instead of using the combustion of fuel, we are now using battery to power our scooter,” he said, adding that the battery made of lithium was recyclable.

Liew said the battery takes up to three-and-a-half hours to be fully charged, and the scooter can travel up to 100km/h in speed.

The ES11 would be launched at the end of the year, he said in Penang after Eclimo signed on as main sponsor for the Eco Terengganu Conference.

Liew, who is experienced in electric vehicle powertrain and high-density energy battery, will be conducting a workshop during the conference to provide an industry overview of electric vehicles and discuss effective marketing and promotional strategies.

The company’s executive director Datuk Dennis Chuah said they were looking forward to playing their part in promoting a more carbon-friendly Malaysia through the conference.

“Our informative workshop is aimed at educating the delegates and dispelling the myths about sustainable vehicle options,” he said.

“Dwindling resources and an urgent need to protect what is left of our fragile earth inspired us to focus our research on alternative eco-friendly sources to power motors and engines.”

Eco Terengganu Conference organising chairman Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik said the conference would gain momentum from the sailing event, creating a platform for sports, business and entertainment to come together to work towards sustainable development.

“We must aim to make this planet a cleaner and healthier place,” he said.

The conference will be held from Nov 23 to 24 at the Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort and Spa in Kuala Terengganu in conjunction with the Monsoon Cup.
