THE Selangor Government was left with no choice but to provide garbage collection after Alam Flora declined to continue.
State local government committee chairman Ronnie Liu said they had no intention of terminating Alam Flora’s garbage collection service.
Liu said the local authorities were supposed to have taken over the general cleaning services such as grass cutting and drain cleaning from Nov 1.

However, he said, the contractor had surrendered the garbage collection service to the state as well on Oct 15.
“The local authorities were left with not much choice but to take over the service.” he said in reply to a question from Yap Ei Wah (BN-Sungai Pelek)
Liu said the overall standard of service had improved since they took over from Alam Flora.
He said the regularity of the garbage service had increased from three to four times weekly for domestic waste.
“The frequency of garbage collection for commercial waste has been increased to twice daily since the takeover,” he said
Liu said feedback from the local authorities had also been encouraging as they had been able to offer efficient service to the ratepayers.
He said there were now fewer complaints from the public compared to earlier.
“The local authorities feel they are doing well without the middleman as they can directly supervise the performance of the contractors.
“As the complaints are directly channelled to the councils now, they are also able to act fast on the complaints,” he said.
Liu also said the local authorities owed Alam Flora RM90mil in arrears.
However, he said the amount had been reduced by 50% following prompt payment exercise by the councils.
Meanwhile, Liu said Alam Flora had failed to settle its dues to the local authorities.
“Alam Flora still owes us money as they have not paid for the equipment, machinery and vehicles they obtained from the councils when they first came in,” he said.
