Having a jolly good time

What say you on the issue below?

ENDLESS laughter filled the air as beer lovers enjoyed good rollicking fun at the Oktoberfest Penang 2011, held for two consecutive days at the Malaysian-German Society on Jalan Air Itam.

The fun-filled event, attended by some 1,800 local and foreigner guests, saw some of the guests flaunting their groovy moves on the dance floor to the beat of Bava-rian music by the Reissner band which was specially flown in from Bavaria.

Guests not only enjoyed good beer but sumptous food such as cordon bleu, German bratwurst and German-style sour pickles provided by Ingolf’s Kneipe German Restau-rant.

Society treasurer Clement Liang said it was the first time the celebration was held for two consecutive days due to overwhelming response.

“Last year, we had more than 1,600 guests attending the event.

Making merry: The crowd enjoying their time at Oktoberfest 2011 held at the Malaysian-German Society premises on Jalan Air Itam, Penang.

“This time around we decided to hold it over two days so that the venue will not be packed and guests will be able to have better fun,” he said on the first day of the event on Oct 28.

German factories such as B. Braun and Robert Bosch had set up stalls to keep the children enthralled with challenging games such as ring-throw, electrical shock, football shoot-out and ping-pong ball shoot-out.

Spotted in the crowd were German Rosa Liebert, 30, and Australian guest Brad Stevens, 49.

Liebert, who is from Stuttgart, said the celebration was a great opportunity to highlight German culture and traditions to the locals.

Stevens loved the variety of traditional music performed by the band.

The merry event, jam-packed with exciting activities such as beer drinking competition and arm wrestling contest for men, ended with a lucky draw session.

Also present was Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
