TO help primary school students improve their English, Pertubuhan Wanita Mutiara is holding a Fun English camp for Year Six pupils from Dec 5 to 7.

The three-day event will be held at the Penang Municipal Community Hall in Balik Pulau, Penang.

Event co-ordinator Noorani Abu Bakar said students nowadays did not want to converse in English due to lack of confidence.

“Through this event, they will get to learn English in a fun way. This would allow them to open up and be confident,” she said, adding that the camp was limited to only 100 participants.

Preference would be given to those in the lower income category.

“Parents must be committed to send their children to the camp for three days,” she said.

State Speaker Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, who is the event co-organiser, lauded the move to organise such an educational camp.

Betty Chew, wife of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, said the camp would not only improve the students’ command of English, but also help them fill their time during the school holidays.

Among the activities are vocabulary building, picture composition, critical thinking skills as well as writing a short story.

A registration fee of RM10 for each student, is required. Lunch and two tea breaks will be provided during the camp, which will be held from 9am to 5pm.
