Eyes firmly set on digital camera

What say you on the issue below?

WHILE most people would want to win a prize for themselves, Clement Heng plans to share it with his friends.

College student Heng, 19, said he and his friends are taking part in The Star’s Bid & Win Contest and have set their eyes on the Canon EOS 60D digital camera.

“My friends and I will work hard to collect these points together. If we win the prize, we will be sharing it among ourselves,” he said after visiting The Star’s promotional booth at Sunway College in Ipoh yesterday.

Heng also said the grand prize of the Peugeot RCZ sports car also attracted his attention.

“The camera, however, seems more within our reach,” he said, after finding out that they would need to collect a lot of “Star Points” to bid for the car.

The contest, which ends on Jan 5, requires readers to collect Star Points of different value each day in order to bid for various attractive prizes, including the Peugeot RCZ.

Eager beavers: Sunway College Ipoh students crowding around The Star’s promotional booth at the college to find out more about the paper’s Bid & Win Contest. Explaining the details of the contest to them is The Star representative V. Sreedaran Nair (left).

Undergraduate student A. Logaamaran said prizes like the camera, Sony PlayStation 3, Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone and the 11-inch MacBook computer were appealing to most college students.

“Most youngsters are very tech savvy nowadays and will try their luck in the contest.

“It is also cheaper to collect the Star Points compared to buying a real product,” the 19-year-old said.

“It is also faster to collect the points by seeking help from relatives who also buy The Star or purchase multiple copies of the newspaper,” he added.

The promotional booth at the college also featured a “Dip & Win” lucky draw session for readers who bought two copies or more. Participants stand to win crash helmets, mugs, notepads and other prizes at the booth.

The booth will be open from 10am to 5pm at Sunway College Ipoh until Thursday.
