Child locator device helps parents watch over their kids while at work

MALAYSIA’S integrated communications service provider Maxis Bhd announced its official partnership with KiddyTrack Sdn Bhd to launch its first-of-its kind child locator solution.

This innovative GPS/ GSM child locator solution is powered by Maxis’ Managed Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology using its 3G service provider.

KiddyTrack was created to meet the needs of working parents who want to watch over their children but are unable to do so due to their busy schedules.

Good solution: KiddyTrack managing director Dr Sim Yee Wai and Sekar showing the device.

KiddyTrack users can locate their children or loved ones by sending a simple SMS.

Within seconds of receiving the SMS, the system will provide users with a URL link of the Google map that shows the location, as accurately as up to five metres, of the child being tracked.

When the GPS signal is unavailable, the cell-based information by the M2M platform can provide the location of the child to an accuracy of a 50 metre radius.

In addition, family members can conveniently monitor via their mobile devices or computers by logging onto the KiddyTrack web portal.

In case of an emergency, the device can also alert up to five pre-installed numbers with just a press of the SOS button at any given time, from anywhere.

The device and accompanying technology not only can be used to locate and track children but also to monitor the locations of the elderly, employees, pets, vehicles and certain valuables.

Additionally, as part of the launch promotion, Maxis customers stand a chance to walk away with an iPad 2 for every third KiddyTrack subscriber, while stocks last (terms and conditions apply).

“We hope that this innovative solution will help bring peace of mind to Malaysian parents, enriching their lives in ways that matter,” said Maxis corporate business general manager and head Sekar Shanmugam.

“We also hope this success story will inspire other business owners and managers to imagine the unlimited commercial possibilities and opportunities that innovations in communication can offer,” he said.

“While exploring existing GPS devices, we had a breakthrough insight that a perfect child locator device would be one that people could access and interact with on their mobile phones,” said KiddyTrack co-founder Simon Lim.

The M2M solutions comprise a telemetry or telematics service that provides seamless communication between devices or servers wirelessly via SMS, GPRS, 3G or Circuit Switch Dial-Up (CSD); requiring no user input.
