SIX charitable organisations received RM1,000 cash aid each from businessman Datuk Suppiah Manikam at his Deepavali open house in Persiaran Sembilang, Seberang Jaya near Butterworth.
How's the food?: Suppiah talking with the home's children during his Deepavali open house in Taman Sembilang in Seberang Jaya. Penang Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas, who was the guest-of- honour at the function, handed the cheques to representatives of the organisations.
The recipients were Persatuan Kebajikan Shammah in Bagan Ajam, the National Autism Society of Malaysia in Bagan Ajam, Persatuan Kebajikan MGR, Prai, Pertubuhan Pembangunan Anak-Anak Yatim Bekas Perajurit Malaysia, Kulim, School for Mentally Handicapped Children in Bukit Mertajam and Persatuan Kebajikan dan Sosial Kamakshi, Prai.
About 100 children from the homes were also invited for the open house and received ang pows.
The 300-odd guests were treated to an assortment of dishes including thosai, roti canai, koay teow, chicken curry, fried chicken and ais kacang.
