Block 354 flat dwellers chip in to help

What say you on the issue below?

IN aid of flood victims in Bangkok, Thailand, residents of Block 354 in Macallum Street, Penang, and an anonymous donor have contributed 400 boxes of bottled water.

The block’s management committee chairman Lee Thuan Chye said he read in the newspapers about Penang St John Ambulance’s donation drive to help the flood victims.

“I immediately felt I had to do something to help the victims in Bangkok, so I decided to go unit by unit under my committee to ask for a donation of RM10,” said Lee.

Needful deed: Lee (second left) handing over the bottled water to Teoh (centre) at the Penang St John Ambulance headquarters in Groves Road.

He managed to collect RM1,260, and purchased 210 boxes of bottled water.

“A donor who wishes to remain anonymous contributed another 190 boxes to make a total of 400 boxes to be sent to Bangkok for the victims.”

Lee hopes that by doing this, management committees in other flats and apartments would do the same to help the victims.

“There are a lot of apartments and flats in Penang and if each unit donates RM10, there will definitely be an enormous sum raised to purchase necessities for the victims,” he said.

Penang St John Ambulance officer Teoh Chuang Piau praised Lee for his effort and said that whilst “every donation is appreciated, we are not only looking to get bottled water but other necessities like food and medical supplies”.
