All things rice

What say you on the issue below?

THOSE who cannot live without rice can rejoice as Resorts World Genting is holding its World of Rice promotion at two of its outlets up in Genting Highlands – the Coffee Terrace at Maxims Genting Hotel and First World Café at First World Hotel.

This one-of-a-kind food promotion, from Nov 21 to Dec 15, from Mondays to Thursdays, offers a wide variety of dishes made from this staple.

There will be rice and rice-based dishes cooked in a variety of styles ranging from Indian, Japanese, Korean, Western and Chinese to nyonya and Malay. The dishes will be served on a rotation basis as part of the two outlets’ buffet lines.

Diners can start with the appetizers such as riso pasta rice, seafood and rice salad or Malaysia’s own nasi kerabu.

For mains, those who love the rich flavours of Indian rice dishes should check out the lamb and chicken briyani; Geelry’s, which is South African yellow rice with raisins; lamb kuzi with rice stuffing; and popular breakfast items like tosai and idli.

For something milder, there is Japanese rice-based cuisine such as onigiri (rice ball) sushi rice and Japanese garlic fried rice with seafood.

At the Western section, there are two varieties of Italian risotto – wild mushroom risotto and suppli’ fried rice balls; Spanish paella with seafood and chicken; shrimp jambalaya; arroz con pollo (or rice with chicken in Spanish); and roulade of chicken with wild rice.

For those looking for something closer to home, the Chinese, nyonya and local selection stations will appeal to them. You can sample pork-free bak chang; yong chow fried rice; yam and dried shrimp rice; chicken loh mai kai; and mini pot rice, among others, at the Chinese section.

The nyonya station’s hybrid offerings include nasi lemak with condiments; nasi minyak with gulai kawah; nasi goreng nyonya; nasi dagang; and bario rice-plain.

Local selections feature brown rice and pineapple with long bean rice; Teo Chew porridge with condiments; chicken rice balls; and lemang with beef rendang.

There will also be rice-based cold dishes or garde manger for appetizers and a wide selection of desserts to complete your meal.

The desserts section offers sweet mango and rice pudding; rice pudding with gula Melaka; pulut panggang; rice tapai; and red glutinous rice with red bean ball.

The all-you-can-eat World of Rice promotion at Coffee Terrace is priced at RM58++ (adults) and RM29++(child) for lunch; RM66++ (adults) and RM33++ (child) for dinner. At First World Café, it is priced at RM41++ (adults) and RM20.50++ (child) for lunch; RM48++ (adults) and RM24++ (child) for dinner. For more, go to www.rwgenting.com.
