Some 200 retirees from the Perak police force were treated to an afternoon of song and good cheer at their recent farewell party.
The Majlis Lambaian Kasih event was held to honour former men and women in blue for their contributions during their years of service.
For Abd Rodzai Abdullah, 56, who retired two months ago, it also offered the chance to mingle and catch up with former colleagues.
“We used to see each other every day and have bonded over many fond memories. I have a deep trust for some of my former colleagues here, who were by my side during dangerous and life-threatening situations,” said the former corporal from Sungai Senam police station.
Rodzai, also fondly known as “Pak Wan”, said he now spends his time catching up with his former colleagues and also networking on Facebook.
Former supervisor of courts, D. Asoka Kumar, 58, who retired after 35 years, said he was proud to have served as a policeman.
“It was always my ambition, since I looked up to my father who was also a policeman. The job taught me discipline and leadership skills, which I believe are valuable assets in any situation in life,” he said.
“A career in the police force was very fulfilling for me and I would encourage youths to enlist.”
Earlier, Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan, who officiated at the event, presented certificates of appreciation to the retirees.
