WIDOW Wong Kam Yoen is an example of selflessness.

The 59-year-old housewife has been taking care of her husband’s three children from another marriage like they were her own, making sure there was always food on the table despite the little money that she has.

Financial help: Dr Zambry talking to Ooi Seng Wai, 14 (fourth from right), Seng Loong, eight (third from right) and Seng Foong, 12 (right), as their stepmother Wong (second from right) and Dr Mah (left) State allocates RM10,000 to look on.

“I cook simple dishes of vegetables and soup for the family.

“On Chinese religious festivals, I bring the children to a nearby temple for vegetarian food in order to stretch the dollar as far as I can,” said Wong, who with her three stepchildren have been surviving on a monthly contribution of RM300 from the state Welfare Department.

Wong, who has been looking after the children since her husband’s death in 2009, said life was difficult as she had asthma and heart problems, rendering her unfit to work.
