FOR every tree chopped down to construct the Batu Gajah Sentral tourism hub, three new trees will be replanted.
This is the promise made by developer Keris Properties Sdn Bhd, which will undertake the construction of the project.
Team Keris Bhd Group executive chairman Datuk Lee Seng Hee said Keris Properties, a subsidiary of the group, aimed to make Batu Gajah Sentral an environmentally-friendly project.
“We are honoured to be a part of the mission to create a greener Batu Gajah as we believe in practising good corporate citizenship.
Work in progress: A construction site for Batu Gajah Sentral. “Thus, we have adopted this mission as our responsibility,” he said during the launch of the company’s Greening Batu Gajah programme at the construction site last Friday.
The green campaign was kicked off with a tree planting ceremony led by State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Hamidah Osman.
Batu Gajah district council president Datuk Jamry Sury said the programme was an example of how private companies could help local councils in their effort to beautify and green the environment.
“The local council will also plant more trees along the Batu Gajah-Manjung Road to further intensify efforts to green Batu Gajah,” he said.
On the Batu Gajah Sentral project, Jamry said the modern infrastructure and facilities would help develop Batu Gajah as a hub for tourism.
The new landmark in Batu Gajah will house the Batu Gajah-Pusing bus and taxi terminal, the Batu Gajah-LCCT-KLIA transit terminal, Selera Sentral (centre for gourmets), a hotel, commercial shoplots and residential houses.
Situated on a 12.14ha site along Jalan Pusing, the project is targeted for completion by the end of next year.
