KUANTAN: The cycling craze has hit Pahang with the statet holding night cycling events at several locations here in town soon.

This is the latest bicycling activity outlined by the Pahang government after the recent launch of ‘town cycling’ event scheduled twice monthly on Sundays.

It is also part of the government’s efforts to encourage healthy living among the residents.

Happy riding!: The Kuantan night cycling participants receive support from their family members as well.

State Tourism, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Shafiq Fauzan Sharif said cycling is a healthy lifestyle and with the right promotion, it could also be turned into a tourism event.

He added that night cycling was not new among cyclists in Kuanta and with the government’s support, the activity would be safer.

“We have gotten the approval from the police to hold the cycling activity at night and this is essential to ensure the safety of our participants.

“We also want it to be an enjoyable outing but safety is equally important too,” Shafik Fauzan said after handing over five mountain bikes to state deputy CPO Datuk Fatimah Ghazali here recently.

The sponsored bicycles are meant for patrolling duties in town.

Fatimah said policemen on bicycles are a normal sight in Kuantan and cycling is a good initiative as the cops would be able to develop better rapport with members of the public.

“Cycling is also good exercise for them to stay fit,” she added.

Fatimaj said the policemen could also participate in the night cycling events to enforce Law and Order while the cyclists are on the road.
