KUALA TERENGGANU: More than 90% of 3,000 students who failed the SPM exams last year, have found placements at various Skills Institutes, sponsored by the state government.
State Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology and Human Resources committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said these students have undergone a three-month course, which covered skills such as construction, electrical and mechanical.
“We want to ensure those who failed their SPM are not left behind.

“Just because they failed, does not mean their future is lost.
“We are giving them this second chance in the hope that they forge a better future for themselves,” he said.
He added most of the students, who obtained a certificate from the course, would go on to further their studies even up to diploma level.
“We want them to fully use the skills learnt as vocational training is useful as jobs that require such skills pay well.
“The state government spends RM1mil yearly in order to fund their studies,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Razif also announced that the state’s cyber class initiative would be promoted to other states, given its success at 38 primary schools statewide.
“Other states have shown interest to follow in our footsteps in implementing the cyber class programme.
“The programme is a success as the students were able to grasp many topics and subjects better,” he said.
