Skateboarders rip them apart

What say you on the issue below?

THE first ever skateboard competition by Rip Curl Malaysia concluded with a big bang, with a strong crowd braving the sun, supporting and cheering their favourite skateboarders while ripping the Rip Curl ramp.

The obstacle, which was the customised Rip Curl ramp, had all the pro skateboarders raving over it.

The ramp, which is modelled after the official Rip Curl logo, reflects the shape of a breaking wave.

Good try: Skate board enthusiasts had fun at Rip Curl “The Search” Skate Competition 2011.

Twenty-five local best as well as five pro skateboarders were there ripping the ramp over three hours.

Each was excited with the hope of walking away with the grand prize of US$1,000 (RM3,000) for the Best Trick Format at the Rip Curl “The Search” Skate Comp 2011 plus Rip Curl goodies.

Some were injured in the process, but nonetheless all had fun and agreed that it was one of the best skate event of the year with thanks to the one-of-its-kind Rip Curl ramp.

Davern Koh aka HypeEmBeats and Jee Hoe of DJ collective Melee Punks, the famed pair of Barsonic, were there to hype things up.

After a gruesome three hours of practice and three hours of endless attempts, Nazeer from Singapore won with the Best Trick award – a “3 Flip to 5-0”, while Fikri aka “Usher” bagged second place with a “Kickflip fs 5-0” and Farris Rahman from Singapore won third place with a “tailslide bigspin out”.
