HELP make wishes come true by taking part in Make-A-Wish — Malaysia’s first annual charity auction dinner on Nov 18.
It will be held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur (level 6, ballroom) and will start at 7pm with canapes and drinks, followed by a three-course dinner inclusive of drinks.
Holiday package deals, paintings, cruises and jewellery are among the items to be auctioned.
The cost is RM250 per person and tables of eight or 10 are available.
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children between the ages of three and 18 with life-threatening medical conditions.
Malaysia became the 35th affiliate of this foundation in 2010. There are currently 37 affiliates.
Director of fundraising, Sarah Wheeler Tan, said the auction dinner is aimed to raise funds for the foundation.
There will be 38 to 40 tables, of which 32 tables have been sold to date.
“There will be an auction, silent auction and raffle tickets,” she said.
To date, the Malaysian chapter has granted 43 wishes, granting about two to three a month.
The first two were for a four-year-old boy who wanted to be a rocket launcher and an 11-year-old girl who wanted to be a flight stewardess.
Lilian Si, secretary and director of volunteers, said that after having his or her wish granted, a child has a much stronger will to continue fighting the illness.
“The whole family is involved and the focus is on the child.
“We hope to create a magical and memorable day. Even if the child wishes to have an iPad, we do not just give it but we will create a special magical party,” she said.
