MUAR: The Pagoh Umno division has embarked on a special programme for primary students entering secondary school next year.

The programme which prepares students for the shift from primary studies to the secondary level, involves more than 400 Year Six students from some 21 primary schools who have just sat their Unit Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examinations.

Jorak assemblyman Datuk Dr Shahruddin Mohd Salleh said the programme started after the examination and was conducted on every school day until the end of the term.

“Our aim is to prepare the students before they begin secondary studies with motivational talks and revisions.

“We conduct the classes on the top floor of my service centre, beginning at 9am and finishing at noon,” he said when met at the centre near Bukit Pasir recently.

Dr Shahruddin said the centre engaged teachers to help manage the programme with him as the master-trainer in motivating the students.

As a Ph.D holder in Civil Engineering from the University of Bradford, England, he said he wanted to see more village students to excel in studies.

Besides, he added, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had visions in making Pagoh a top educational hub in the region.

He said Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP, wanted Pagoh to be a university city in the near future and plans were underway to set up several university campuses.

He said village students in the division should know what was being planned in Pagoh and wanted them to study hard to enter the universities.

“We will do our best in motivating these students and prepare their mindsets before they enter secondary schools next year.

“We will provide buses to ferry the students from their schools and will even provide meals during breaks,” he added.
