A CASH prize of RM10,000 awaits the person who takes the best photo depicting the state’s 10 icons of tourism.

The icons are the world’s oldest rainforest of Royal Belum; Gua Tempurung, the largest limestone cave in peninsular Malaysia; the Matang mangrove swamp forest; the Taiping Zoo and Night Safari; the Perak Herbal Park; the Orang Utan Island at Bukit Merah Laketown Resort; the Felda Residence Hotsprings in Sungai Klah; the royal town of Kuala Kangsar; Lumut and Pangkor Island; and Ipoh, which is well known for its beautiful limestone hills.

Organised by Perak Tourism and Photo Image Association Perak, the competition is being held in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2012.

State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Hamidah Osman said all entries must depict the 10 icons and that the pictures would be Tourism Perak’s property.

“The pictures will also be used as future promotional material,” she told reporters after opening the competition at D.R. Seeniva-sagam Park in Ipoh recently.

Hamidah said the competition was open to locals and foreigners, and there was no limit to the number of entries.

“Besides the grand prize of RM10,000, RM5,000 awaits the first-prize winner while RM3,000 and RM2,000 will be given to the second and third-prize winners respectively,” she said.

“Ten merit prizes of RM500 each will also be given to the 10 best pictures while another 10 consolation prizes of RM200 are up for grabs,” she added.

The prize presentation ceremony would be held on New Year’s eve, she said.

There is no entry fee. Closing date is Dec 17.
