IT IS that time of the year again for the prestigious Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) to open its doors, yet again, to all who fancy a good meal of fine dining.
This year, themed ‘It’s Raining Chef’, is MIGF’s 11th consecutive year of serving up a month-long of fine-dining experience for gourmands to taste and appreciate the fine cuisines prepared by the country’s top resident chefs. There are specially-priced festival menus and offers to tempt diners to try different venues and dine out more often.
“The theme for this year’s festival [is] a deliberately light-hearted tagline aimed at giving the festival [a] universal appeal,” said MIGF organising chairman Datuk Steve Day.
According to Day, the MIGF presents itself to be a platform to promote the chefs and restaurants in Malaysia while promoting food as a tourism product. “We are telling the world that we have an industry like this right here,” he said.
According to Tourism Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Dr Ong Hong Peng, who was present to officiate the MIGF recently, the festival had garnered exceptional international publicity ever since its inception in 2001. Last year saw an average of 23% of revenue increment for all participating restaurants and some 38% for first-time entrants.
Carlsberg Malaysia is also participating at the 11th MIGF offering a portfolio of international premium beers, wine and spirits because “the finest food deserves the finest beer”. These are offered at the 28 participating top-notch restaurants in the country throughout the festival.
