Icy sculpture to mark 11/11/11

What say you on the issue below?

ELEVEN chefs from various hotels in the Klang Valley and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) carried out an extraordinary feat when they carved a keris out of a 19-foot tall ice block at the The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur on 11/11/11.

The chefs were from KLCC, The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Hotels and Resorts and Crowne Plaza Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The feat, recorded as the “Tallest Ice Sculpture Statue” in the Malaysia Book of Records was witnessed by Information, Communication and Culture Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf and Malaysia Book of Records founder Datuk Danny Ooi.

The sculpture took the 11 chefs approximately eight hours to complete.

They started at around 11am and finished by 7pm, which by then was officially measured to be the tallest ice sculpture in Malaysia yet.

The idea came from The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur’s chief artist Zulkifli Mustapha.

“The date of 11/11/11 is indeed special as it will only comes once in your life. So, I figured why not do something outstanding.

“Also, ice carving is a form of art in the culinary field and we want to expose that instead of a mere decoration for weddings and banquets,” said Zulkifli.
