JOHOR BARU: Clear skies greeted many Muslims here as they performed the Hari Raya Aidiladha prayers at various mosques on Sunday.

At Masjid An-Najjah in Taman Daya, a total of 18 cows were sacrificed after the prayers at around 8.30am.

Civil servant Mohd Faiz Ahmad, 26, said the fine weather was a blessing to him and his family as it was easier for them to commute to the mosque and conduct prayers.

“I prepared several umbrellas in case the weather changed but am glad that it didn’t,” he said adding that his house was a short walk away from the mosque.

Mohd Faiz explained that he had also helped in carrying out the act of sacrificing the cattle at the mosque.

Student Mohd Fadli Kassim, 23, was also happy that the weather remained clear throughout the prayers.

“It has been raining for the last couple of days and to have clear skies for Hari Raya Aidiladha is a blessing,” he said.

He added that he always looked forward to the day as it was also an opportunity for him to meet up with family members and friends.

Hari Raya Aidiladha is celebrated by Muslims to commemorate the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened and provided him with a sheep to sacrifice instead.

The celebrations start after the Hajj, which is an annual pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide.
