Bukit Bintang station transformed into culture hub

What say you on the issue below?

IN SUPPORT of arts and traditional music, RapidKL Monorail launched the Art Aspiration Campaign by transforming the Bukit Bintang station into a musical fiesta with heaps of activities.

The event was launched at the monorail station by Information, Communication and Culture Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf.

The weekend programme will run until the end of the year. It began with the Traditional Music Week (Oct 29 to 30), followed by Batik Week (Nov 12 and 13), Craft Week (Nov 19 and 20), Wedding and Traditional Custom Week (Dec 3 and 4) as well as Design Week (Dec 17 and 18).

Artful works: Kamaruddin at the launch of the Art Aspiration Campaign at the Bukit Bintang station.

RapidKL Monorail is working together with the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara) and for the Traditional Music Week, their students performed live music at the station.

It is also supported by a fusion ethnic music group Mohram, a much revered duo who hold vast experience in the traditional music scene.

According to Prasarana Rail division group director Khairani Mohamed, the programme — held under their “Station of Life” project — was a campaign launched by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd that at every RapidKL LRT and Monorail station will hold a Big and Lasting Impact Project.

“Prior to this, we made the Bukit Jalil LRT station a Football Station of Life in July in conjunction with the football match between Malaysia, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

“The Bukit Bintang monorail station reflects the cultural identity, thus called the Culture Station of Life.

“A lot of tourists and visitors use this station, which is why we choose to have it here.

“This is like an added value to the product we can offer visitors,” he said.

He added that the next station to be transformed was Dang Wangi, which would be converted into the Young Talent Station.

During the launch, Kamaruddin said the Bukit Bintang station was one of the busiest stations and the effort will make Kuala Lumpur an international cultural centre.

“Malaysians are of different races, the noble acts of our people will help raise this effort to an international level,” he said.
