Bicycle thieves nabbed

MUAR: School children as young as 12 years old here were detained for stealing bicycles parked not far from a supermarket near Jalan Khalidi in the town.

Muar police chief Asst Comm Mohammed Nasir Ramli said a case was made when two pupils reported that their bicycles parked near a stall along Jalan Khalidi were stolen on Oct 15.

He added that the pupils later saw some boys riding their bicycles and alerted the police who sent a team and managed to locate the thieves at their houses.

After arresting one of them near Kampung Kelantan in the town, police found five stolen bicycles in the area.

“Initial investigations led to the arrest the rest of the gang, aged between 12 and 15,” said ACP Mohammed Nasir.

He added that the most shocking discovery was 12-year-old member of the bicycle theft gang who was involved in stealing bicycles in and around the town area.

On another case, he said police arrested a man and a Thai woman in a house in Taman Temiang Utama along Jalan Salleh here on Oct 25 and found nearly 35gms of narcotics.

A man, aged about 50 and the woman, 30, were detained to assist police investigate their case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

In another case, ACP Mohammmed Nasir said police detained a man and his two nephews for stealing about RM400 worth of oil palm fruits in an estate on Oct 25.

He said the 30-year-old man who worked at a factory, has been stealing oil palm fruits from the estate but was only caught only recently.

“He was caught red-handed when trying to cut down the fruits at night,” he added.
