Best in the business honoured

IT WAS a prestigious night as the creme de la creme of corporate Malaysia were honoured for their business practices at the recent Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) 2011 last week.

Finalists who won top honour in their respective categories were proud of their achievements. Many considered the awards a platform to improve their brand awareness, while others a motivation to strive harder in the future.

Some of the winners were also humbled for being recognised at what they did best.

The event, which is into its second year, is aimed at paying tribute to up-and-coming Malaysian non-listed companies and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) striving to carve a niche in the business world.

A total of 27 awards in 11 categories were presented at a ceremony held at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur.

Eight were platinum awards, 10 gold and nine silver.

There were a total of 115 entries from 83 companies this year.

The awards that were up for grabs were: Technology/ICT, Best Use of Media, Outstanding Malaysian Brand, Community, Best Employer, Environment, Innovation, Global Market, Rising Star, Entrepreneur of the Year and Business of the Year.

The event was organised by The Star with Exim Bank as presenter and BMW Malaysia as gold sponsor.

It is supported by Bursa Malaysia and audited by BDO Malaysia.

The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur is the official hotel partner and Bernama TV the official TV news partner.

Shang Hai is the official business magazine while 988FM is the official radio station.
