Promoting Korean vegetables and fruits

SUBANG JAYA:  Malaysians who enjoy eating Korean vegetables and fruits now have even more reason to go to Giant hypermarkets nationwide.
The retail chain is having a special Jinju City Korean fruits and agro-produce promotion until the end of the year.
Shoppers can buy Maehyang strawberries, Shingo pears, Fuyu persimmons, Erynggii mushrooms and Korean muskmelons at discounted prices. Giant hypermarkets are owned by GCH Retail (M) Sdn Bhd.
Jinju City  mayor Lee Chang-Hee, Korean fresh produce exporter Morning Farm Co Ltd’s president Ib Lee, GCH Retail (M) Sdn Bhd senior category manager Junie Chung and Malaysian fresh produce importer TCK Sdn Bhd  chief executive officer David Tay, launched the promotion at Giant USJ.
Also present were a group of Korean farmers who supply  fresh produce to Morning Farm.
“With the waters flowing through our pristine Namgang River, sheltered by the protective mountains and caressed by the salty sea breeze from the coast, Jinju City produces some of the best strawberries, persimmons and fruits in the region and we want to bring this to the world,” said Lee.
Ib said  Morning Farm had been in business for more than 20 years.
“We identify and distribute a range of first-class fruits such as strawberries, Shingo Pears and sweet persimmons from Korea around the world,” he said.
“I strongly believe there is a strong market in Southeast Asia for Korean produce as there has been an increasing demand for them over the years. For example, Malaysia is the largest importer of Korean sweet persimmons in the region.
“Maehyang strawberries, a product created in Korea, is seeing an obvious increase in sales in Singapore and Hong Kong and, through this promotion, we hope Malaysia’s next.”
“We at TCK  are proud to be part of this occasion where we have been chosen as the importing partner from Malaysia for the range of fresh produce from Jinju City Korea,” said Tay.
“ TCK Sdn Bhd is one of the largest fruit and vegetable importers and wholesalers in Malaysia, with more than 35 years of experience.
“Sales of fresh produce from Korea is doing well in Malaysia, especially fruits such as the popular Maehyang strawberries that is fast becoming a popular choice globally due to its appealing appearance, beautiful texture and the good balance of sweetness.
“The muskmelons, which are beautiful fruits and perfect as gifts, are usually expensive, but customers will be pleasantly surprised at the price range that Giant is offering during this promotion.
“From my experience as a fruit importer, I can safely say that I prefer fruits from Korea not just because they have a high sugar content, giving it that delicious crunch and taste that we love, but also because the Koreans take food safety very seriously and ensure that products are shipped to reach their destinations in the most efficient manner to guarantee freshness.
“I hope more Malaysians will take this opportunity to visit Giant stores nationwide to try out some of the delicious produce available at special prices.
“The popular Eryngii mushrooms, also known as Trumpet mushrooms retail at RM7.99 for a 400gm packet.
“Maehyang strawberries are on sale at between RM13.99 to RM19.99 for a 250gm pack, while Shingo pears are being sold between RM6.99 to RM15.99 per fruit. “Persimmons are being sold at prices ranging from RM0.99 to RM1.99 per fruit, while muskmelons are on sale at prices ranging from RM13.99 to RM15.99 per kg.”
