GEORGE TOWN: THE state Gerakan Youth wing called on the organisers of the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2014 to explain why the event was poorly planned.
The inaugural run on the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge was said to be heavily criticised by participants. Among the complaints were the lack of shuttle buses to transport participants, delay in tabling the final results, disorganised system of presenting medals and shortage of toilets and medical facilities.
Penantg Gerakan Youth secretary Ooi Zhi Yi said the state government should have foreseen the problems as it had been organising the event for six years.
He urged the state Tourism Development Committee chairman Danny Law to respond to the complaints.
“He has been monitoring the event for the past six years and should know the problems,” said Ooi.
He also said there were many negative comments on the marathon posted by Facebook users. At press time, Law could not be reached for comment.
