SLIM RIVER: Heavy rain last night caused a road here to cave in causing difficulties to more than 1,000 villagers in Kampung Kuala Slim and nearby areas.
The road, known as Jalan Kuala Slim, caved in around 8pm causing the route to be closed to motorists.
The affected part of the road is believed to be eight metres wide and 34 metres long.
It is learnt that heavy rain for several hours on hills nearby caused heavy flow of water underground, parts of which passed under the road.
According to a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman here, the route was immediately closed to motorists, adding that no one was injured when the road collapsed.
Following the incident, villagers now have to use a seven-km diversion to go to Slim River town.
