District Deputy Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Shamsuddin shows the object used as a weapon by the suspects to rob.
Police crippled a robbery gang masterminded by a pregnant woman who preyed on senior citizens living near Felda Bukit Besar in Kota Tinggi. The woman, who is five months pregnant, and two male college students were arrested after a heist at Km38, Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang at 7.45pm last Wednesday.
The trio are under remand.
It is learnt that the woman would sweet-talk and bring the victims to a remote place where they were robbed by the two male suspects.
In the incident, the woman managed to win the heart of a 76-year-old woman to accompany her to a night market.
District deputy police chief DSP Mohammad Shamsuddin said the suspect only knew the victim for only two days before offering her a ride to a night market.
"Without giving it a second thought, the senior citizen followed the suspect to the night market. When sending her home, the suspect took a longer and remote route.
"She suddenly stopped the vehicle and claimed that it had broke down. It was at this time that the students appeared and robbed the senior citizen of RM10,000 worth of jewellery," said Mohammad.
"When the suspect brought the victim to the police station to lodge a report, we found something amiss as the two knew each other for only two days.
"After questioning, the suspect admitted that she was working hand in glove with her nephew and the latter's friend, who were staying at the woman's house.
Mohammad said police recovered cash and jewellery buried in an oil palm estate behind the suspect's house.
Investigations showed that the students are from Kolej Giat Mara at the Felda land scheme.
Mohammad believed the trio were behind several robberies there and urged victims to come forward to identify the suspects.
