Minister lauds participants at mass-circumcision ceremony

What say you on the issue below?

THE thought of getting a circumcision is sure to leave most adults feeling sick with worry.

But not 10-year-old Muhd Firdaus Wahid and 18 other boys who took part in a mass-circumcision ceremony at Fasa 3C Seri Manjung last Saturday.

“I wasn’t afraid, but was feeling a bit restless while waiting for my turn,” said Muhd Firdaus.

The young boy said his two elder brothers had tried to scare him but then he kept telling himself that there was nothing to be afraid of.

“I told myself I was prepared for it,” he added.

Nine-year-old Muhd Hafiz Nazmi Muhd Zaini, another of those participating in the ceremony, also displayed bravery.

“I am not afraid of getting circumcised. All boys have to go through this rite of passage to adulthood.

“My parents have already given their blessings and support and I am ready,” he said during the ceremony attended by Lumut MP Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.

In his speech, Kong praised the children for their courage in taking part in the ceremony.

“All of you have taken another step closer to adulthood.

“When you grow up, I hope you will show the same courage in becoming a person who contributes back to society,” said Kong.

Earlier, Kong, who is also Transport Minister, had met up with the Rukun Tetangga committee at the residential area where he gave out RM1,500 to help residents conduct their activities.

He later opened a Family Day celebration at Taman Manjung Point Section 1 where he commended the residents for actively organising activities to bring residents closer together.

“Activities promote unity and cooperation with others.

“It is important that everyone learns to work closely and respect each other,” said Kong, who later announced an allocation of RM3,000 to the Rukun Tetangga committee in the area.

At his next stop, Kong presented a RM100,000 cheque to SMK ACS Sitiawan’s board of governors to enable the school to fix its leaking roof and also to purchase a public address system.
