Legal matters on MRT land acquisition to be resolved soon

What say you on the issue below?

MRT Corporation will take all efforts to avoid land acquisition for the My Rapid Transit project in the Kuala Lumpur city centre .

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid, said the corporation had to take into account the heritage buildings and livelihood of people in areas such as Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Inai and Jalan Sultan.

However, he said the corporation had to acquire land for the elevated lines and station boxes within the city limit.

In detail: Azhar (second from left) being briefed on the MRT information kiosk by MMC-Gamuda Public Relations and Communications Manager Bhavani Krishnan Iyer. Looking on is MMC-Gamuda director Datuk Azmi Mohd Nor.

“Our lawyers are discussing the legal matters on land acquisition. It is still in the early stages and hopefully it would be resolved by the end of the year so that the project can be completed on time,’’ he told reporters during the launch of the MRT information kiosk at the Metro Plaza in Kajang on Saturday.

The MRT information kiosks that were recently set up at two busy shopping centres in the Klang Valley have proven to be a hit with more than 12,000 visitors, and an average of 800 daily since Nov 1.

The kiosks at the Plaza Metro Kajang and Tesco Mutiara Damansara, are part of MRT Corp’s effort to create awareness and educate the public on how the project can enhance their quality of life by providing them with a fast, efficient and integrated transport.

It offers the public an interactive experience to understand the implementation of the MRT and receive feedback on the project.

The kiosks are equipped with touch screen panels that enable visitors to conveniently access information. Visitors can also easily access the “Hawk Eye” 360 degree map on the touch screen panels and view the MRT alignment map.

The kiosks are open from 10am to 10pm until Nov 30.
