Hulu Langat Adventure Race is back

What say you on the issue below?

IT IS that time of the year again. The Hulu Langat Adventure Race is back for the second year — this time covering a longer distance to cater for sports enthusiasts.

Co-organised by National Adventure Association (NAA) and Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), the event will feature a combination of five endurance disciplines, including running, kayaking, cycling, high rope and obstacle courses, in a challenging route that stretches 77km.

NAA president Datuk Khalid Yunus said besides promoting sports among youths, the organiser aimed to identify athletes for international events through this race.

“We also want to highlight Hulu Langat as a tourist spot,” he said.

Full support: Khalid (fourth from left) and Hassan Nawawi (centre) receiving sponsorships from the sponsors.

The event will start and finish at the Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) Dusun Tua on Sunday.

Last year, the 50km race attracted 70 teams. This year, the organisers are expecting about 80 teams.

“There will be new challenges as the participants are required to cycle uphill along some parts of the route. So far, 55 teams (two participants in a team) have confirmed participation,” Khalid said.

Simultaneously, there will be cultural activities at IKBN to liven up the atmosphere at the race site while the race is in progress.

MPKj president Datuk Hassan Nawawi Abdul Rahman believed that participating in adventurous sports would raise a person’s fighting spirit.

“People who are taking part in sports activities like this have a higher level of confidence.

“If more youths join such programmes, we will have a generation that is durable, willing to learn from mistakes and able to face the challenges in life courageously,” he said.

Sponsors for the event included Universal Fitness & Leisure, 100 Plus, World of Sport, Milo, Powerbar, Nestle, Corezone and Lafuma.

The event is open to Malaysians aged 18 and above.

There are two categories, Men’s Open and Mixed Open, offering total of RM17,200 cash prizes.

The first 10 teams to complete the race will be rewarded with cash while the first 20 teams will take home finishing medals.

Participants are required to report to IKBN on Saturday and the race will be flagged off at 8.30am the following day.

Participation fee is RM180 and registration closes on Saturday.
