SITIAWAN Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha officiated at the opening of Tadika Chinese National at Kampung Koh near here recently.
The officials and preschoolers with their gifts of ‘Angry Bird’ schoolbags.
He was welcomed by kindergarten headmistress Tiang Wan Hiong, Parent-Teacher Association chairman Steven Shue and Chinese local community leader Ling King Ching.
Kong, as the school's board of governors chairman, had given the mandate for the kindergarten to operate rent-free for three years.
Built in 1961, it was formerly the SRJK (C) Chinese National Kampung Koh Dindings Chinese School Teachers' Association.
The bungalow has been renovated and given a fresh coat of paint at a cost of RM40,000.
It has two classrooms, a playroom, office, kitchen and toilets as well as a garden for the children to play during recess.
Surrounded by a chain-linked fence for the safety of the preschoolers, it is ideally located to serve the mainly Chinese residents in the area.
Kong urged the people to make use of the facility as it is important to build a good foundation in early education.
Kong, as the MP for Lumut, also donated RM10,000 to the kindergarten's fund for operating costs and the purchase of teaching aids.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Angry Bird schoolbags were given to 30 pupils.
About 75 people, comprising parents, children and other guests, were treated to food and beverages.
