What say you on the issue below?

SEVEN fire fighters who are involved in rescue operations were honoured by the Rotary Club Petaling Jaya recently.

The seven are — Seman Awang, Zula Alim Mahful and P. Kireetharan from the PJ New Town fire station in Jalan Yong Shook Lin, Mohamed Habid Alias from SS2 fire station, Mohd Samso Ismail @ Abdul Latif from Damansara Utama fire station, Mohamad Ali Ismail and Mashot Arshad from Jalan Penchala fire station.

They received tokens of appreciation from the club in recognition for their dedication to saving lives and property in times of fire emergencies.

The fire fighters, who have been serving the Petaling Jaya community since 1985, were delighted with the recognition.

“Rotary wants to remind people that there are vocations behind the scenes that contribute to our well-being and that they deserve to be recognised and appreciated,” said club president Jack Lim, who presented plaques to the seven fire fighters.

In October each year, Rotary International across the globe takes the effort to recognise professions that contribute to the community.

The awards bestowed to the firemen by the club are part of an ongoing commitment to recognise and dignify all vocations that contribute to the quality of human life.

The club has in the past chosen key vocations that have very high human connection, such as teaching, nursing, care giving and rubbish collecting.

“The vocation of fire fighting and rescue was chosen for this year’s recognition because most people do not think of fire fighters until they are confronted by a fire,” said Lim.
