ECCO, the Danish shoemaker and retailer has opened its first store in Malaysia at The Gardens Mall in Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur recently.

The brand is no stranger to our shores having made its first appearance in 2009. Working with Vietmaland Sdn Bhd, distributor of Ecco in Malaysia, they have now put their best foot forward with a dedicated outlet to strengthen their presence here.

Vietmaland managing director Francis Chan said they are inspired by the brand’s founder, Karl Toosbuy’s simple philosophy of combining form and function to produce comfortable trendy shoes in Scandinavian designs.

“It is satisfying because the brand takes ownership as a major shoe manufacturer in overseeing every single step of the shoe-making process. And their employees are the driving force behind great innovations.

Opening its doors: The event was launched by Chor (third right) together with (from left) Chan Hing, wife to Waever Karin Gunilla, Waever, Loh and Francis.

“They are passionate about crafting materials and inventing technologies to make shoes fit and perform better for the consumers.

“We are grateful for the strong support shown by our principal, partners and customers over the years.

“Today, we are creating another interesting milestone in our business development plan to showcase the brand’s Scandinavian heritage as well as varied choices to fit different lifestyles with the latest initiative,” said Francis.

At the recent launch, invited guests took a tour as they set their eyes on the latest collection inspired by the lush Scandinavian forests and modern nature, in the 750 sq ft outlet.

The hosts also lined up a show with models parading this season’s Autumn/Winter ladies’ and men’s collection of formal, casual, performance and sports footwear.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung, Danish Ambassador Svend Waever, Ecco South-East Asia general manager Loh Seow Yuen and PMT Group chairman Chan Hing were also present at the event.

Besides the new addition of the first store, the brand’s products are also available at Parkson in KLCC, Pavilion KL, One Utama and Subang Parade, as well as Robinsons in The Gardens.
