Eye-opening lesson: Children from St Joseph's Home learning how to type using Microsoft Word during the free computer class.

TWELVE children from St Joseph’s Home had a fruitful lesson when they attended a free computer class for the first time.

The children, aged from eight to 16, were taught some technical know-how in typing and creating simple images by using Microsoft Word.

Throughout the one-hour session, they engaged in the class actively by practising instructions given by two teachers.

The weekly free computer clas-ses are jointly organised by Lebuh Chulia Community Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and AR Consultancy, a corporate training provider.

JKKK chairman Tan Peng Seng said the classes aimed to promote computer literacy among the children.

He also thanked the company for providing a conducive and well-equipped computer room.

“The class is conducted once a week and we are also working to have a similar class for senior citizens who stay nearby,” said Tan.

Also present was state Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow, who lauded the organisers for the services to the community.
