THERE’S something enchanting about a snow globe, especially if you could walk into one.
A life-sized Giant Snow Globe is currently drawing much attention at Gurney Plaza in Penang.
Inside the globe are reindeers, a sleigh and Christmas trees. It’s a spellbinding sight when illuminated at night.
Believed to be the largest of its kind in the state, it measures 6.7m in diameter and 5.4m high.
It was officially lighted in a recent ceremony marking the start of the mall’s Yuletide festivities.
According to marketing communications manager Peter Chan, shoppers who spend RM500 and above in a single receipt stand a chance to enter the snow globe for photo taking sessions at 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm and 9pm daily, from now until Dec 31.
Passes must be redeemed at the customer service counter, limited to 10 per session.
Each pass admits a maximum of two pax, and shoppers should bring their own cameras.
State Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang, who launched the snow globe together with the mall’s centre manager Lawrence Teh, said the novel decoration would provide a unique experience for those lucky enough to enter it.
“Penang is a multicultural and multireligious state whose citizens partake in many different celebrations each year.
“This globe attraction helps draw tourists.
“Let us also not forget that Christmas is a season of love and giving,” he said.
Among the other events shoppers can look forward to during the festive season is the Tale of the Winter Christmas Globe Musical Live Show from now until Dec 18.
Showtimes are 2pm and 6pm on weekdays, and 2pm, 4pm and 6.30pm on weekends.
Audiences will be taken on an festive journey where Christmas Fairies, Elves and Teddy Bears will be singing and dancing to enchanting tunes.
