HAVING 20 years of experience in the advertising and media industry and recognising the people who have helped her in her life prompted Lenny Chiah to write a book describing her work experiences and share her insights about the industry.
The launch of her book entitled “Learning from Championship Brands” recently also coincided with her birthday.
“Nobody expected me to write in English. However, since I had seven years of experience working in an English-speaking agency, it helped me to improve my English. I used to complain about my age and not having enough time to achieve many of my goals but on hindsight, I am happy to have the privilege to live well into my 50s,” said Chiah, who is Sin Chew Daily corporate communications and promotion general manager.
The event was launched by Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung. As it was Chiah’s birthday, she also received a surprise visit from supermodel Amber Chia.
“Learning from Championship Brands” contains chapters related mostly to ethical leadership, branding and corporate social responsibility.
“Since I love doing what I do, I thought why not write a book about it to share some of my insights,” added Chiah, who also mentors undergraduates.
“By nature, I love mentoring students. I feel that there are valuable lessons to be learned in this book and it was a good idea to share them in print. This book is very light-hearted and printed on recycled paper. It is also very heavy with the wealth of knowledge and experiences which have I gathered over the years.”
Chiah described writing the book as “hard as hell”.
“But now I can say it feels like heaven seeing the finished product. It took about two years to complete the book. Whatever it is, I am very happy that the book has become a reality for me and a personal dream come true,” she said.
Chiah said she was glad that she had time to finish the book. She also sent out special thanks in her speech to all the people who helped her with the book.
