Klang Kiwanis Club liven up the mood at paediatric ward

What say you on the issue below?

CHRISTMAS carols were heard in the paediatric ward of Klang’s Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (TARH) and this livened up the spirit of the 37 children at Ward 6B.

Alexander Nicholas and Jeremy D’ Costa, part of the youth group from the Our Lady of Lourdes Church volunteered their time to be at the children’s ward with the aim “to share and spread the joy of Christmas.”

Both Alexander and Jeremy were invited to join the Klang Kiwanis Club’s annual visit to the paediatric ward to spread the cheer of the festive season.

A gift for you: Shirley ging Muhammad Afiq Haikal a soft toy for Christmas while the hospital’s staff nurse T. Alice Nesamary and Santa claus look on. Afiq’s mother Nor Habibah Mohd Noor, 36, is seen at the behind him.

“One of the ways to make the world a better place is for people to become committed to voluntarily help each other. We love music and singing. We use this talent to cheer up others and fill them with joy. We are inspired when others express joy on hearing our music and we continue our efforts as we see the spirit of volunteerism is still lacking,” said the duo.

The children’s joy doubled when their visitors including Santa Claus and Klang Kiwanis Club community director Shirley Sobey, gave away cuddly teddy bears of various sizes and other gifts.

Close to 10 Kiwanis Club members clad in orange T-shirts joined in to sing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer as some children clapped with glee, with their parents watching them and nurses sang along.

“For the last six years, we have been going to the TARH paediatric ward to spread festive cheer. It is heartwarming to see children in a cheerful mood despite their illness,” said Sobey.

Sobey said the 10 club members, including Alexander and Nicholas were happy to share their Christmas joy with children at the paediatric ward through a spirit of volunterism.

“We want to genuinely show love to the children, truly hold one another in our hearts as this is more eloquent than any gift,” she said.

Children Muhammad Afiq Haikal, five who was with his mother Nor Habibah Mohd Noor, 36, was thrilled to receive a teddy bear while Ragesh Renganathan, 12, who was warded for fever wore a smile after being given a board game.
