Great tips from DJs

What say you on the issue below?

It’s that time of the year for merry-making with Christmas and New Year approaching, but some of us are still having a tough time shopping for gifts. Let’s see if we can steal ideas from the Capital FM DJs.

FOUR DAYS to go and some of us have not even done our Christmas shopping due to our hectic schedule.

Coming up with a gift list is definitely not an easy task as most of us have run out of ideas and do not want to give away the same things as we did before.

Priceless: Asha believes no gift of material worth can match the essence of love and joy your dearest ones can bring.

Capital FM DJs have come up with some interesting yet exciting suggestions for gifts, which might help us get a worthwhile present for that special person.

Xandria Ooi, who is also the StarMetro columnist, likes to give out books as nothing beats having the weight of a good, old-fashioned book in your hands.

She also recommended spa manicure and pedicure vouchers from Amante Nail Spa and Body Care.

Ooi’s affordable gifts would include clutches, earrings and headbands, and these can be personalised for the recipient.

She said Thomas Sabo charms are also a great choice, as it offered different varieties to choose from.

I like: Ooi with her favourite Christmas gift.

Shirts are good for guys as they can never have too many.

Board games and card games never get old.

She gave her family Stomp tickets this Christmas and likes getting people customised cupcakes.

Last but not least, a giant hug for everybody — it never fails.

For Sheela Haran, thoughtful gifts are the way to go.

She likes presenting people with cooking sets as she wants them to hone their cooking skills.

Sheela feels serviettes, paper plates and matching candles bring out the Christmas spirit at Christmas barbecues.

Personal touch: Sheela says thoughtful gifts are the way to go.

She planned to gift an aspiring pilot a remote controlled helicopter and roller blades for little ones who love to whizz around.

For those in need of stress relief, she recommended a rejuvenating Balinese massage, or luxurious satin pillowcases — to reduce hair loss and wrinkles on the face.

To a close friend who loves colours, Sheela intends to give a turquoise lampshade.

However, topping Sheela’s gift list is love, kisses and hugs that she believes are priceless.

Tan Chung Liang or better known as Liang, fully believes in diving into the spirit of Christmas head first.

His gift ideas consist of everything that represents Christmas — Christmas trees, decorations, reindeers (or maybe ponies since they may not survive in the Malaysian climate), Santa and Santarina costumes and the perfect Christmas turkey with stuffing and delicious sauce.

Whimsically, he enthused that he would like to give out tickets to the ultimate joy-ride, riding Santa’s reindeer sleigh around the world.

However, in reality, he feels gift vouchers are perfect when you have no idea what to get.

True to his heart, Liang would like to dress up as Santa Claus and deliver presents to orphanages in efforts to spread the Christmas cheer and spirit.

For mother, with love: This Christmas, Eusoff plans to get some Tauscher Chocolate for his mother.

Most importantly, Liang agreed that having family around during Christmas was the best gift of all.

Asha Gill is of the firm opinion that material gifts pale in comparison to the gift of family and friends.

This Christmas, she will be giving out lots of love and cuddles.

Christmas, for Asha, is also a time for memories and reflection, cosy gatherings reminiscing the good times and lighting candles for those who are not around to share the celebration.

“It is a time to let loved ones know that we still think of them, texting greetings en masse on Christmas and New Year’s day,” she said.

In her words, no gift of material worth can match the essence of love and joy your dearest ones can bring.

Joanne Kam opts for the not-quite-conventional ideas.

She preferred gift ideas like a youth activator gift pack consisting of various beauty products, a book by Flynn Heath — Break Your Own Rules — for women-on-the-go and a Lego digital camera to cheer one up.

Apart from that, Kam lists sexy bustiers for the ones who enjoy looking good, a tiara ring, a Wonder Woman figurine (girl power!), and a quirky Boyfriend-For-A-Day idea, where a girlfriend gets to have a cute model for the day and all expenses on shopping, dining and dancing paid for by a bunch of friends.

Kam said a chocolate fondue set would also be an exciting gift, as not only was it cute, it could also be used during small parties.

She added that another great way of pleasing someone would be to buy a star for that someone special.

When it comes to Christmas gifts, April Kuan said it was all about indulging the senses.

Her top 10 presents consist of products like Glow Lotion by Soap & Glory from Sephora, Body Shop shower gel as she loves the fruity scents, aromatherapy oil burners or candles (her favourite scents are vanilla and lavender), a voucher for an Aromatic Massage at Hamman in Bangsar Village 2 and Almond Tonic Body Oil from L’Occitane.

Aside from that, her gift list also included accessories from Diva, gift vouchers from Topshop or Topman, a leather handbag from thirty-four, an iPad case and a classic Moleskine notebook.

This Christmas, Tony Eusoff planned to get some Tauscher Chocolate for his mother, as nothing makes her more happy than chocolate.

An iPad 2, a new phone, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab are some of the gadgets that he planned to give out this year.

Personal items like a perfume and deodorant set, a colourful tie, and cuff links have also made their way into his shopping list.

For something useful, Eusoff prefers a coffee maker for a coffee lover, a new bed to replace his dog’s chewed out old one, and a relaxing island resort holiday voucher for a dear one in severe need of rest and relaxation.

It’s always difficult to decide on a Top 10 when you have a number of people with various tastes and interests to cater for, which perfectly describes the conundrum Patricia K is in.

Nevertheless, she foresees her Christmas shopping list to include things like perfumes, music, electronic gadgets, jewellery, and randomly, a telescope.

Most importantly, Patricia said Christmas was all about getting together and being merry with lots of food and laughter.
