LINE dance enthusiasts had a wonderful time showing off their moves and it was all for a good cause too.
Team 1 DOS comprising Eddy Tang, Celeste Shee, Wendy Teh and Bee Kim beat six others to emerge champion in a charity jam session in Penang.
The group pocketed the RM1,000 top prize while the first runner-up was Team Colour comprising Fiona Yuen, How Wee Leng, Theresa Lee and Channel Lim.
The second runner-up was Pink Ladies consisting of Vivien Loh, Joanne Lim, Jacey Wong, Janice Tan, Khor Phaik Ngim and Imelda Jee.
The runners-up won RM750 and RM500 respectively in the community event themed ‘Healthy Women Build Healthy Communities’ held at the Sunshine Square banquet hall.
1 DOS team leader Tang said they trained for two weeks prior to the competition under the guidance of their instructor Evelyn Khaw.
A total of 500 dance enthusiasts took part in the recent event, jointly organised by the Bayan Baru Rukun Tetangga Ladies Wing and the Metropolitan Sports & Recreation Club.
Held with the co-operation of Sunshine Square, the event was aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle while helping the less fortunate.
Free health screening for the public was conducted by Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital and the Total Wellness Support Centre.
According to Bayan Baru Rukun Tetangga chairman Chai Tsing Boo, proceeds from the participation fees would go to the Pusat Harian Harapan Bakti Balik Pulau, a centre for special children.
Teluk Bahang assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya, the guest of honour, appealed to the public, especially the multinational firms in Bayan Lepas, to support the centre under their corporate social responsibility initiatives.
“They can help with the children’s education and welfare as the centre is a non-profit organisation that depends largely on public donations,” said Dr Hilmi who is also the centre’s patron.
Also present were Pantai Jerejak Barisan Nasional Coordinator Wong Mun Hoe, Bayan Baru Barisan Nasional Coordinator David Yim Boon Leong, Sunshine Square general manager Yee Kam Ming, Malaysian Health Promotion Board assistant director of planning & assessment Mohd Yuznir Mohd Yunus and Metropolitan Sports and Recreation Club chairman Heng Foey Tin.
