THIS year’s Christmas at Sungei Wang Plaza is set to a ballroom dance floor atmosphere with huge Roman pillars and fresh red velvet curtains adorned with golden ribbons.
The main stage is created to resemble a ballroom ambience with sparkling red chandeliers hanging down at the Atrium Centre. The backdrop is designed as a ballroom wall using large photo frames, Roman pillars and Renaissance carving to add a touch of elegance and style.
Long curved red velvet curtains are hung in between the Roman pillars with Christmas garlands being placed on top to signify the Christmas season. The stage floor is covered with silver PVC floor tiles just like a real ballroom setting.
According to Sungei Wang Plaza promotions and public relations senior manager KK Lim, this year’s Christmas theme was set to a ballroom style to not only celebrate the festive season in a merry way but also to promote ballroom dancing among the audience.
“This is something interactive and fun in which the young and old can participate.
“This year’s decoration comprised mainly Roman pillars, Christmas garlands, red Poinsettia flowers and Christmas trees to create a classical yet Christmas ballroom atmosphere. The theme ‘A Ritzy Glitzy Christmas Ball’ is centred to symbolise a magical classical ball filled with a repertoire of Latin and Ballroom performances which are celebrated during the Christmas season,” he said.
Christmas trees are placed around the stage accompanied with Christmas lights.
A small yet cosy area (just in front of the main stage) is set to resemble Santa Claus’ greeting area for shoppers to snap memorable photos with Santa Claus.
Kelvin Hng from K Design Collection is the main face behind the stage designs and decoration.
“I got the inspiration of having this backdrop after watching Anastasia, the Russian princess who was dancing with the prince in the grand palace ballroom. Hence the idea of having Roman pillars and red big velvet curtains on the stage are closely related to what I have seen,” said Hng.
