G HOTEL guests and passers-by at Gurney Drive bought and enjoyed a delicious German treat, knowing it was all for a good cause.

Four hundred loaves of Christstollen baked by G Hotel chefs in Penang are being sold to raise funds for a mangrove-planting project.

About 30 hotel workers went all out to sell the Christstol-len, a traditional German cake filled with dried fruits and nuts and covered in powdered sugar.

Each loaf cost RM15.

Hotel public relations officer Angie Chen said they hoped to raise RM3,000 to plant 100 mangrove saplings at Gurney Drive next month.

“In the spirit of giving during Christmas, G Hotel will enhance the ecosystem with mangrove rehabilitation,” she said.

She added that the proceeds from the sale of the cakes on Saturday would go to charity projects by the hotel.

It was the fifth consecutive year that the hotel had organised a charity drive during the Christmas season.
