METEOR Group, a consortium of 11 public universities in the country, gave its staff reason to let their hair down at the group’s family day held in Serdang recently.

More than 700 employees and their families took part in the many activities organised including telematch and indoor games.

The crowd also had fun playing with hamsters and rabbits at the petting zoo while a handful sang their hearts out during the Meteor Got Talent segment.

The day’s highlight was a cooking demonstration by Open University chancellor, Tun Jeanne Abdullah, and Chef Zam who demonstrated their respective skills in preparing spring rolls and spaghetti.

They do have talent: A lot of dancing going on as staff members’ families join in the fun.

The Meteor MasterChef competition also revealed budding cooking talents from among the staff.

The team, comprising lecturers Nor Aishah Fadli and Tuan Fatima Tuan Sulaiman, emerged the champion and received prizes comprising hampers and gifts.

During his speech, Meteor Group CEO Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali, who is also OUM president/vice-chancellor, stressed that the annual family day was held to enable the staff to get to know one another.

It was a happy moment for the staff and their families as they meet and mingle with the Chancellor and former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

This year’s family day met its objective to foster close ties among staff from various divisions and learning centres, and this in turn could contribute to increased productivity within the organisation.
